The President of the USA, Donald Trump, threatened again this Thursday to increase tariffs on automobiles, arguing that a new increase in tariffs could lead brands to accelerate investments in the USA.
“I can raise tariffs in the not-too-distant future,” Trump said at an event at the White House, as quoted by “Reuters“. “The higher the tariffs, the more likely they are to build factories in the USA.”, concluded the American president.
It should be noted that companies in the automotive sector have pressured the White House to reduce the 25% tariffs imposed by Trump on automobiles. The three major automakers in Detroit, USA, recently criticized an agreement that would cut tariffs on imports of British cars, but not on production in Canada or Mexico.
Pressured by the costs resulting from the tariffs, in recent weeks, Ford Motor and Subaru of America have raised prices on some models due to the higher costs of the tariffs imposed by Trump.
