In a shocking turn of events, the FIA General Assembly has given the green light to major statute changes that could potentially solidify President Mohammed Ben Sulayem’s position, much to the dismay of critics. This move, seen as a strategic maneuver to secure Ben Sulayem’s re-election bid, has sparked controversy within the Formula 1 community.

The International Automobile Federation, responsible for overseeing various prestigious championships including Formula 1, rallying, and Formula E, witnessed a tumultuous General Assembly meeting in Macau where the statute changes were pushed through. While no specific numbers were disclosed, a spokesperson revealed that a “resounding majority” favored the amendments, leaving many speculating about the implications of such a decision.

Ben Sulayem, an Emirati figurehead, is gearing up for a second consecutive four-year term at the helm of the FIA. However, the lack of transparency surrounding the recent statute changes has raised concerns about the integrity of the electoral process and the fairness of the upcoming re-election.

As the motorsport world braces for a potential shift in power dynamics, the controversial decision made during the General Assembly meeting is sure to have far-reaching consequences. Stay tuned as this story continues to unfold, and the Formula 1 community grapples with the aftermath of these unprecedented developments.
