Ford inicia produção de baterias para veículos elétricos na fábrica de Colónia

Ford announced that it has begun mass production of batteries for electric vehicles, in three sizes, at its Cologne factory in Germany.

The new batteries will equip Ford’s new generation of electric vehicles, the Explorer and the Ford Capri, two models that are built at the Electric Vehicle Center in Cologne. Both vehicles are based on Volkswagen’s MEB electric vehicle platform, as part of a broader collaboration.

The new battery assembly factory in Cologne, which Ford claims is fully digitized, not only ensures high quality and efficiency but also includes the continuous development of the skills and knowledge of Ford’s workforce as part of the factory’s transformation into a unit of the future.

“The 180 newly installed robots weld, glue, and screw the battery casing, equipping it with up to 12 battery modules. A total of about 2,775 individual parts are assembled into a battery pack on the highly automated 2 km production line”, Ford stated in a press release.

The new battery factory also represents another step in Ford’s journey towards an electric future, modernizing production processes and facilities and further expanding its capacity in Europe.
