The Austrian Automobile Association is making waves in the world of motorsport by taking a bold stand against proposed changes to the FIA statutes. The association, known as OAMTC, is concerned that these modifications could have detrimental effects on the integrity of the global governing body for motorsport and potentially hinder any opposition to the re-election of President Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

In a strongly worded letter sent on June 10 to the mobility section of the FIA’s world council, the OAMTC made it clear that they are urging all FIA members to push back against the proposed statute changes. The letter, which was seen by Reuters, outlines the association’s concerns and opposition to a crucial vote scheduled to take place during the FIA General Assembly in Macau.

The Austrian Automobile Association is adamant in its appeal to all FIA members to stand against these changes that could shake the very foundation of motorsport governance. With the upcoming vote looming large, the stakes are high, and the future of the FIA hangs in the balance.

This opposition from the OAMTC adds a new layer of complexity to the upcoming General Assembly in Macau, as stakeholders grapple with the potential ramifications of these contested statute changes. As the motorsport community braces for a pivotal moment in its leadership and governance, all eyes are on how this dissenting voice will impact the proceedings.

The Austrian Automobile Association’s bold move underscores the deep-seated concerns within the industry regarding the proposed changes and the implications they may have on the future direction of motorsport. With tensions running high and the specter of a contentious vote on the horizon, the world of motorsport is facing a moment of reckoning.
