Ferrari’s Drastic Decision: Hamilton’s Influence Leads to Major Shift in Development Focus

In a shocking turn of events, Ferrari is on the brink of a significant change in their F1 development strategy. Reports suggest that the Italian team is gearing up to halt the progress on the SF-25 this month to shift their attention to Project 678, the anticipated F1 2026 car.

The decision comes following Lewis Hamilton’s subtle yet powerful suggestion to the team to prioritize next year’s car over the current one. After narrowly missing out on the Constructors’ title last season, Ferrari had high hopes for the F1 2025 campaign with the arrival of Hamilton from Mercedes. However, the team’s bold move to introduce design changes, including a switch to the pullrod front suspension layout, has not yielded the desired results, with Ferrari trailing behind McLaren by a staggering 197 points.

Hamilton’s teammate, Charles Leclerc, managed to secure three podium finishes this season, but ongoing issues with the SF-25 have plagued the team. A ride-height problem forced Ferrari to make adjustments, impacting the car’s performance on the track. Despite efforts to address these issues with upcoming rear suspension upgrades, it seems Ferrari is ready to make a drastic shift in their development focus.

Italian publication Auto Racer revealed that Ferrari is nearing the end of their F1 2025 development operations, paving the way for a full transition to Project 678. With Hamilton hinting at the need to concentrate on the future, the team seems poised to make the leap sooner rather than later.

The move towards the F1 2026 car marks a pivotal moment for Ferrari, as they aim to bounce back stronger in the upcoming season. With the sport undergoing significant changes in regulations, including increased electrification, sustainable fuels, and active aerodynamics, the pressure is on for teams to adapt and innovate to stay competitive.

As Ferrari prepares to embrace this new era in Formula 1, the dynamics within the team are evolving rapidly. Hamilton’s influence, coupled with internal assessments of performance and strategy, is shaping the team’s trajectory for success in the seasons to come.

Stay tuned for more updates as Ferrari navigates this critical juncture in their racing journey, with all eyes on their pursuit of glory in the ever-competitive world of Formula 1.
