F1 Sensation: Carlos Sainz Struggles to Adapt to New Team, Blames Daniel Ricciardo and Lewis Hamilton

Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz is facing a tough time adjusting to his new team at Williams, drawing comparisons to the struggles of fellow drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Lewis Hamilton in the past. Since joining Williams after the 2024 season, Sainz has had difficulty getting used to his new car, scoring only 12 points compared to his teammate Alex Albon’s 42 points.

However, despite a rocky start, Sainz is starting to show signs of improvement as the season progresses, gradually becoming more comfortable behind the wheel. The Spaniard’s slow start saw him only scoring one point in the first four races of 2025, but he bounced back with 11 points in the following four races.

Reflecting on his challenges, Sainz pointed out the struggles faced by Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari, who has yet to secure a main race podium and is trailing behind his teammate Charles Leclerc by 23 points. Sainz also mentioned Daniel Ricciardo’s difficulties when he moved from Red Bull to Renault in 2019, highlighting the adjustment period required when switching teams and car setups.

Ricciardo, known as the ‘Honey Badger,’ made a bold move from Red Bull to Renault in 2019 in search of becoming the lead driver in a promising team. However, Renault couldn’t provide him with a competitive car, leading him to switch to McLaren before returning to Red Bull’s family in 2023. Unfortunately, Ricciardo was dropped from F1 midway through the 2024 season, admitting that his move to Renault might have been a mistake in hindsight.

Both Sainz and Hamilton are hoping that their transitions to new teams won’t jeopardize their careers, with Williams showing promising progress that gives Sainz hope for the future. The journey of adaptation in Formula 1 continues to challenge even the most seasoned drivers, proving that success in the sport requires not just talent but also patience and resilience.
