Stellantis has initiated a voluntary exit plan for 610 workers at its Mirafiori plant in Turin, Italy, after implementing a similar plan at other Italian facilities.
According to “Reuters,” citing a Stellantis spokesperson, the plan aims to “support early retirement or different career opportunities”, adding that Mirafiori employees can enroll in the company’s voluntary exit plan until the end of July.
It is worth noting that Stellantis announced its intention to cut up to 1,600 jobs in Italy through the voluntary exit plan.
According to the same source, the Mirafiori plant will have a stable workforce starting in August to prepare for the launch of the new hybrid version of the Fiat 500. Mass production of the new model is expected to begin in November.
Luigi Paone, from the Uilm workers’ union, one of the unions that agreed to Stellantis’s voluntary exit plan, has already stated that the plan is aimed at workers who are closer to retirement age.
The plan “should pave the way for the hiring of young workers as we approach the start of production of the hybrid 500”, Paone said.
