Young NASCAR driver Ty Gibbs is feeling the pressure as he remains winless in the Cup Series despite hitting 100 starts. Sitting in 27th place in the standings, a third-place finish at Michigan did little to boost his playoff chances. Frustrated by the missed opportunity for a win, Gibbs lamented, “Wish we could have got one,” acknowledging the unfortunate circumstances that prevented him from clinching victory. Adding insult to injury, Gibbs had to witness his teammate Denny Hamlin snatch the checkered flag while he was conserving fuel, highlighting the bitter pill he had to swallow.

Reflecting on the race, Gibbs expressed his disappointment, stating, “I feel like we had the capability to go do it. I feel like we showed we were fast enough to go do it.” Despite his resilience in making the fuel last until the end, Gibbs is left wondering if he could have pushed harder. The race saw William Byron as the only driver who failed to finish, emphasizing the importance of securing a win over settling for third place in Gibbs’ mind.

Acknowledging the significance of a victory, Gibbs emphasized, “A win is more important than third.” While grateful for the third-place finish and recognizing the team’s effort in staging a comeback from a rough start, Gibbs remains focused on clinching that elusive win. With only three top-ten finishes this season, Gibbs is trailing behind his successful teammates Denny Hamlin and Christopher Bell, who each have three wins under their belts.

Despite the frustration of falling short at Michigan, Gibbs sees the race as a step in the right direction as NASCAR gears up for the next challenge in Mexico City. As the young driver continues to strive for his breakthrough win, all eyes will be on Gibbs as he looks to make a mark in the fiercely competitive world of NASCAR.
