Juan Pablo Montoya Urges Ferrari: Shift Focus to Hamilton for 2026 Title Battle

Juan Pablo Montoya, the former Colombian Formula 1 driver, has set the racing world on fire with his bold statement regarding Ferrari’s future. According to Montoya, the key to Ferrari’s success and potential victory in 2026 lies in shifting their focus from Charles Leclerc to Lewis Hamilton.

Despite acknowledging Leclerc’s impressive performance this season, Montoya believes Ferrari should prioritize Hamilton’s experience to develop a winning car for the upcoming championships. In Montoya’s opinion, catering to Hamilton’s needs will be crucial for Ferrari to be competitive in the 2026 season. He emphasized that building a car more suited to Hamilton’s style rather than Leclerc’s is essential for securing consistent victories and potentially championship titles.

During his podcast, MontoyAS, Montoya expressed his views, stating, “The Ferrari is currently not focused on Lewis, and it will be interesting to see if, suddenly, with next season’s car, they will take into consideration Hamilton’s needs more than Leclerc’s. I think that if they want to be competitive in 2026, the foundation of the car must be designed more for Lewis than for Charles.”

Montoya highlighted the difference in approach between Hamilton and Leclerc, noting that while cars tailored to Leclerc’s preferences might secure occasional wins, they are not sufficient for clinching a championship. On the other hand, under Hamilton’s leadership, Montoya believes that fast cars quickly find the right direction, with Hamilton adept at pinpointing areas for improvement.

Describing Ferrari’s environment as political and complex, Montoya suggested that this dynamic may have surprised Hamilton. He remarked, “I think Lewis expected that, considering who he is, Ferrari would do everything he desired.” Montoya emphasized the need to focus on the 40-year-old Hamilton rather than Leclerc as the path for Ferrari to return to consistent title contention.

In essence, Montoya’s bold assertion challenges Ferrari to reevaluate their strategy and prioritize Hamilton’s expertise and preferences to craft a championship-winning car for the future. Will Ferrari heed Montoya’s advice and shift their focus to Hamilton, potentially altering the course of their Formula 1 journey? The racing world awaits the Cavallino Rampante’s next move amidst this strategic dilemma.
