Mercedes-Benz propõe sistema de compensação tarifária com os EUA

Mercedes-Benz wants to resolve the issue of customs tariffs for the U.S., and thus, the CEO of the German brand proposed an agreement that allows cars from the U.S. to be imported to Europe without taxes in exchange for tariff exemptions on the same number of vehicles that manufacturers from the European Union export to the U.S.

In an interview with the German magazine, “Spiegel,” Ola Källenius made it clear that his proposal has already been communicated to both parties. “We presented the idea to both parties and the proposal is being evaluated in the negotiations between the U.S. and the EU.”

According to the CEO of Mercedes-Benz, this proposal could serve as a precedent for other sectors, Källenius added.

It should be noted that Mercedes-Benz and its German competitors, BMW and Volkswagen, are in negotiations with Washington about a possible agreement on import tariffs.

In a separate interview with the newspaper “Frankfurt Allgemeine Zeitung,” also published on Thursday, Källenius stated that Mercedes-Benz was available as a “sounding board” to contribute ideas for the trade negotiations between the EU and the U.S.

“As a company, we maintain conversations with policymakers, both in the EU and in China and the U.S.,” said Källenius, who remains committed to contributing to a solution to the trade “war” between the U.S. and Europe.
