Formula E seeks to differentiate itself from Formula 1 while Max Verstappen continues to dominate.

Fórmula E busca se diferenciar da Fórmula 1 enquanto Max Verstappen continua dominando.

The incredible winning streak of Max Verstappen is a rare occurrence in the Formula E series, where winners change almost every race.

Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds criticized Formula 1 in light of Verstappen’s impressive streak. The Dutch driver has won three consecutive world titles and is the favorite for the fourth in 2024. Verstappen, who is 26 years old, easily won the first two races of the 2024 season.

Formula E, a fully electric racing series established in 2014, has had its share of talented drivers. However, unlike Formula 1, Formula E has managed to avoid a single team dominating the championship. In fact, someone even made a $250,000 bet on Verstappen’s defeat this season.

Dodds recalled the bet he made, which reinforced his belief in Verstappen’s dominance in the 2024 season. Despite facing criticism for making such a bet before the start of the season, Dodds pointed out that Verstappen’s two wins validated his prediction. He even suggested that Verstappen could win all 24 races this season. Dodds emphasized that Formula E did not want to follow the path of Formula 1, where a single driver or team dominates the sport.

Dodds highlighted that in the nine seasons of Formula E, there have been eight different world champions. Championship battles often come down to the final stage of the season. Dodds emphasized that the sport recognizes the importance of fierce competition. He believed that fans would only continue to support the championship if there was genuine competition. Formula 1 recently experienced a drop in viewership after Verstappen’s dominant performance in the season opener in Bahrain.

Undoubtedly, Verstappen’s dominance may discourage casual fans from following every Formula 1 race weekend. However, the sport has no control over this, as it is a result of Red Bull’s success in car development. Now it is up to rival teams, such as Ferrari and Mercedes, to build competitive cars capable of challenging Red Bull’s dominance in Milton Keynes.
