Tesla’s sales have experienced a sharp decline in several European markets in May, marking the fifth consecutive month of decline. In Portugal, Tesla sales fell by 68% compared to the same month in 2024, with 292 units sold.
According to data from the Automobile Association of Portugal (ACAP), overall, Tesla sold 2,739 units between January and May, representing a 36% decrease compared to the same period last year. Despite Tesla’s decline, the electric vehicle market in Portugal grew by about 24% during the same period.
In Sweden, sales of new Tesla models dropped by 53.7% in the fifth month of 2025 compared to the previous year, while in Denmark the decline was 36%, in the Netherlands 16%, and in France the drop was 67%.
Contrary to the trend of declining Tesla sales in several European markets, Norway saw an increase of 213% in May, according to data from the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV), with purchases of the Model Y, both new and used versions, totaling 2,346 units sold, compared to 690 recorded in May 2024.
Analysts continue to attribute the decline in Tesla’s sales to the political activities of Elon Musk, CEO of the American electric car company, as well as to a range of outdated models compared to the competition.
