Volvo Cars has temporarily suspended production at its assembly plant in Ridgeville, South Carolina, due to a shortage of essential parts, caused by ongoing disruptions in the supply chain affecting the automotive industry.
The Ridgeville plant produces the fully electric Volvo EX90 and has been a key pillar of Volvo’s electrification strategy in the United States.
According to “AutomotiveNews Europe, the production halt, announced on Thursday, May 29, is attributed to the shortage of specific essential parts for the assembly of the EX90.
It is worth noting that the automotive sector is facing the consequences of disruptions in the global supply chain, driven by recent geopolitical and trade tensions. Additionally, the imposition of new tariffs in the U.S. on imported components for the automotive sector has reduced the availability of parts, leading to production delays for several manufacturers.
Volvo did not specify the duration of the production halt, stating that it is actively working with suppliers to resolve the issue and resume operations at the Ridgeville plant as soon as possible.
