In a shocking turn of events, Liam Lawson, from Racing Bulls, fiercely defends the team’s actions during the Monaco Grand Prix, adamantly stating, “We did nothing illegal.” Amidst the controversy surrounding their strategy, Lawson remains steadfast in his defense.

During the race, Lawson deliberately drove at a slower pace to impede other drivers, strategically allowing his teammate Isack Hadjar to make two crucial pit stops and secure a points finish. This move sparked concerns about teams manipulating the race to benefit specific drivers, raising eyebrows across the paddock.

Despite the backlash, Lawson stands by Racing Bulls’ decisions, emphasizing that they operated within the boundaries of the rules. “We have a job to score as many points as we can and make the best strategy possible. We did nothing illegal, and it was a very positive race from our side,” Lawson asserted in response to the criticism.

The nature of the Monaco track played a significant role in enabling such tactics, with Lawson acknowledging that similar strategies would not be viable at other circuits like Barcelona. Reflecting on his performance, Lawson admitted, “I definitely didn’t execute everything perfectly,” highlighting the learning curve in Formula 1.

As the dust settles on the controversial race, Racing Bulls’ actions continue to divide opinions within the motorsport community. Lawson’s unwavering defense sheds light on the complexities of strategic decision-making in the high-stakes world of Formula 1, where every point matters in the pursuit of glory.
