Legendary F1 figure, Flavio Briatore, sets Alpine on fire with bold claims for the future

Formula 1’s infamous persona, Flavio Briatore, known for his controversial yet successful stints in the sport, is back in the spotlight with grand aspirations for Alpine. The 75-year-old Italian, currently serving as an executive advisor to Alpine, has ramped up his involvement in the team following Oliver Oakes’ recent departure as the team principal.

Despite a challenging start to the 2025 season with only seven points on the board and a driver switch from Jack Doohan to Franco Colapinto, Briatore is adamant that Alpine must aim for victories in 2026 and a title challenge in 2027. In a recent statement to Le Monde, he declared, “In 2026, we can win races, I guarantee it, and in 2027, we want to be title contenders. In 2026, there will be no excuses: we must be competitive. We owe it to Renault, to Alpine… we’re in this sport to win.”

Pinning his hopes on Alpine’s upcoming switch to Mercedes power in 2026, Briatore emphasized the importance of having competitive tools to succeed in F1. Despite acknowledging the allure of signing Max Verstappen, he acknowledged the necessity of working with the resources at hand. Briatore’s confidence in Alpine’s future success stems from his successful tenure with the Enstone-based team in the past, where he secured three constructors’ titles with racing legends like Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso.

Having faced a lifetime ban from F1 in the aftermath of the 2009 ‘Crashgate’ scandal, a decision later overturned, Briatore is now poised to steer Alpine towards a new era of triumph. While unable to take on the role of team principal officially, he has assumed a more prominent position within the team’s hierarchy. With a strong team supporting him across technical, commercial, and management departments, Briatore is unwavering in his commitment to Alpine’s success.

As Briatore sets the stage for Alpine’s resurgence, the F1 world watches eagerly to see if his ambitious vision will come to fruition. With the sport undergoing significant rule changes in 2026, the Italian maestro believes that Alpine’s interpretation of these regulations will be key to gaining a competitive edge in the highly competitive field. Stay tuned as Alpine gears up for a potential championship charge under the guidance of the enigmatic Flavio Briatore.
