Tragic Death of Co-driver Dai Roberts in Jim Clark Rally Shocks Motorsport Community

The rallying world unites in an extraordinary show of support as over £100,000 is raised for Dai Roberts’ family in record time. The tragic loss of 39-year-old Dai Roberts in a fatal accident during the Jim Clark Rally has sparked an overwhelming response from the community. Within a mere 24 hours, close to 1500 generous donors contributed to the cause, exceeding the initial goal by tenfold.

The rallying community, known for its camaraderie and solidarity, banded together to ease the financial burden on Roberts’ grieving family. The JustGiving page, initiated by fellow competitors John Stone and Damian Cole, quickly gained traction, attracting donations from all corners of the sport. From local businesses to renowned World Rally stars like Scott Martin and Aaron Johnston, the collective outpouring of support has been nothing short of remarkable.

Stone and Cole expressed their deep appreciation for the rally community’s swift and generous response, highlighting Dai Roberts’ impact both on and off the track. Despite the funds not being able to bring back the beloved co-driver, the gesture aims to provide some solace to his family during this trying time.

The Roberts family has endured its share of rally-related tragedies, with Gareth ‘Jaffa’ Roberts meeting a similar fate in 2012, and Craig Breen facing a fatal accident in 2023. Dai himself narrowly escaped a life-threatening incident in 2014, underscoring the inherent risks in the sport they all hold dear.

As the rallying world mourns the loss of Dai Roberts, the unprecedented show of unity and generosity serves as a testament to the tight-knit community’s unwavering support in times of adversity.
