Pierre Gasly Brimming with Confidence Ahead of Spanish Grand Prix

After a tumultuous race in Monaco, Pierre Gasly from Alpine is gearing up for redemption at the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix. The French driver, still reeling from the collision with Tsunoda in Monaco, is optimistic about his chances this weekend. Gasly, alongside his teammate Franco Colapinto, is set to mark the 70th anniversary of Alpine with a special celebratory look on the track.

Despite a disappointing outcome at the Monaco Grand Prix, where both Colapinto finished 13th and Gasly retired after the collision, the Alpine team is now setting its sights on the Spanish circuit with renewed determination. Gasly, the sole Alpine driver to secure points this season with a 7th place in Bahrain, is eager to leave behind the Monaco mishap and deliver a stronger performance in Spain.

Gasly expressed his confidence, stating, “We are heading to Barcelona for the last race of the European triple-header. As a team, we are really aiming to be in a much better position than in Monaco, where our performance level was probably a surprise to us. We qualified too far back, making it very difficult to reach the points zone. Our race ended after the incident with Yuki, so it was game over. It seemed challenging to make a comeback, so we regroup and see what we can improve ahead of Spain. I hope this kind of track – a more complete circuit than Monaco – suits our package better. We need to respect the mandatory technical directives, so we might see some small differences on the grid. As for the circuit, I have always enjoyed driving in Barcelona. We have had good performances there in the past, so I remain optimistic for this weekend.”

The upcoming race in Spain poses a fresh opportunity for Gasly and Colapinto to showcase their skills on a track that promises more overtaking chances compared to Monaco. Colapinto, who faced his own challenges in Monaco and Imola, is determined to gain more experience with the A525 car and aim for a top-10 finish in Spain.

Colapinto shared his thoughts, saying, “The Monaco weekend was tough for the team. We struggled with the car’s pace for various reasons and ended up too far back on the grid on a track with very few overtaking opportunities. The new two-stop rule introduced different tactics among teams, and although we managed to climb up the standings, the 13th place was the best we could achieve from the race. I am looking forward to Spain this weekend to wrap up the triple-header. Being a Spanish-speaking country with many Argentine fans, I am sure it will be a special weekend for me. This week was also my birthday, so it was nice to have a couple of days to relax and recharge with my loved ones. Hopefully, we will have a more positive weekend in Barcelona on a circuit that should suit our package better. The layout is more traditional than Monaco, so the goal will be to get comfortable with the car as quickly as possible to secure a good result in qualifying and prepare well for the race on Sunday.”

As the anticipation builds for the Spanish Grand Prix, Gasly and Colapinto are ready to leave their mark on the track and strive for a successful weekend in Barcelona.
