Jos Verstappen’s Return to Red Bull: A Game-Changer Move?

Formula 1 fans were left wondering about the impact of Jos Verstappen’s absence from the paddock earlier this season. The father of Red Bull’s star driver, Max Verstappen, made a bold statement, declaring that his time away was actually a “good thing.”

Jos Verstappen, a familiar face in the F1 world, decided to skip several races to focus on his rally career and personal life. Now back in the mix, the 53-year-old revealed that staying away during races like the one in China, where Max finished fourth, was beneficial for his well-being.

In a candid interview with Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, Jos opened up about his reasons for missing the races. He explained, “My wife is struggling with health problems, and I want to be there for her too. And everyone knows that I don’t like the Formula 1 world as much as I used to. Maybe it was a good thing that I wasn’t there then, also for my own state of mind.”

Jos Verstappen’s straightforward nature has often caused friction with Red Bull’s team principal, Christian Horner. Their relationship soured in the past, especially during the 2024 season, following an investigation into Horner. Despite the tensions, Jos hinted at a “mutual respect” between them, emphasizing that they may not be vacation buddies but must maintain a level of professional courtesy.

As Red Bull gears up for upcoming races, including the one in Barcelona, the focus is on the team’s performance. Verstappen Senior believes that the true test will come in Barcelona, shedding light on where Red Bull stands in the competitive F1 landscape.

With Jos Verstappen back in the paddock, the dynamics within Red Bull’s camp could see a shift. Will his presence bring a new wave of energy and motivation to the team? Only time will tell as the F1 season unfolds.
