Fernando Alonso Named Ambassador of Barcelona Circuit Ahead of Spanish Grand Prix

As the anticipation grows for the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso, a two-time world champion, has been appointed as the ambassador of the Barcelona Circuit. This prestigious recognition aims to promote the circuit and support the development of young racing talents.

Despite a challenging start to the season with no points scored in the first eight races, Alonso is hopeful for a turnaround in form at his home Grand Prix in Spain, set to take place this weekend at the iconic Barcelona Circuit. The circuit holds a special place in Alonso’s heart, having secured victories there in 2006 and 2013.

Alonso expressed his honor and excitement at becoming the ambassador of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, emphasizing the track’s significance in his career and the fond memories associated with it. The 43-year-old driver highlighted the importance of the circuit in his racing journey, from his early days in karting to his Formula 1 successes.

The appointment of Alonso as the ambassador comes at a pivotal time for the Barcelona Circuit, with recent modernization efforts underway. Despite the contract with Formula 1 expiring in 2026, negotiations are ongoing to secure the circuit’s place on the racing calendar amidst the emergence of a new street circuit in Madrid.

Alonso stressed the importance of preserving historic circuits like Barcelona, citing their rich heritage and contribution to the sport’s legacy. He also reiterated his commitment to nurturing young racing talents through his extensive experience in Formula 1 and motorsport.

The President of Fira de Barcelona, Pau Relat, praised Alonso’s appointment, recognizing his role in promoting the Barcelona Circuit as a world-class racing venue and supporting the development of future racing stars.

Alonso’s ambassadorship signifies a new chapter in his storied career, where he not only aims to excel on the track but also make a lasting impact on the next generation of racers. With his wealth of experience and passion for motorsport, Alonso’s influence as an ambassador is set to inspire a new wave of racing talent at the Barcelona Circuit.
