Alpine manages expectations to mirror McLaren’s return in F1.

Alpine gerencia expectativas de espelhar retorno da McLaren na F1.

The Alpine Formula 1 drivers, Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly, downplayed the possibility of their team replicating McLaren’s impressive turnaround last season. The Enstone-based team had predicted a slow start to the current campaign with their revamped charger A524. However, Alpine team director Bruno Famin admitted that the team’s disappointing performance at the season opener in Bahrain, where they occupied the back row of the grid, was a surprise. Alpine’s situation has been compared to McLaren’s situation last year, when they went from struggling to score points to regularly challenging for podiums. The Anglo-French team has since adopted a leadership structure similar to McLaren’s, but Gasly believes Alpine should not focus solely on emulating their rival’s success. Ocon agrees that McLaren’s impressive turnaround is inspiring, but he believes that 2024 still has the potential for Alpine to progress significantly.

In a remarkable display of achievement, the way they achieved it is truly impressive. This groundbreaking achievement has not been seen before in the world of Formula 1, making it a monumental occasion in this new season. They have undoubtedly set an example for others to follow.

Despite the internal restructuring that is taking place, I have full confidence in the team and their process. The ultimate goal is to make improvements and elevate us to a higher level. Bruno, in particular, is reliable to lead us in this endeavor.

However, it is important to note that McLaren’s success last year does not guarantee our ability to achieve the same results, despite the similarities. It is not an easy task until it is accomplished. Just because they did it does not necessarily mean we will be able to do the same. We should reserve judgment until we have achieved it ourselves.

We are aware that the necessary improvements for the heavy and uncompetitive Alpine car will not happen overnight. It is a gradual process that requires time and patience. We understand this and are prepared for the journey ahead.

As for the updates we can expect, there is a plan in place to introduce updates throughout the year. With each update, we hope to take a step forward and get closer to the desired performance.
