FIA President Ben Sulayem Faces Potential Rival Bid from Carlos Sainz Sr in Upcoming Election

In a shocking turn of events, FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem is gearing up to defend his position against a possible rival bid from none other than Carlos Sainz Sr. The motorsport world is buzzing with anticipation as the Spaniard expressed his interest in running for the presidency in the upcoming December election.

Ben Sulayem, who took over the reins from Jean Todt in December 2021, was widely expected to seek a second term. However, with Sainz Sr throwing his hat in the ring, the upcoming election is bound to be a fierce battle of titans in the world of motorsport governance.

When questioned about his decision to stand for re-election, Ben Sulayem emphasized the need for more time to achieve his ambitious goals for motorsport. “Do I need more time? Yes. Has it been easy? Never. Has it been enjoyable? Sometimes,” the Emirati leader declared, highlighting his determination to strengthen and grow the FIA.

While no official opposition has been declared yet, Sainz Sr’s interest marks the first indication of a potential challenge to Ben Sulayem’s presidency. Despite concerns about a conflict of interest with his son racing for Williams in F1, Sainz Sr remains undeterred in his pursuit of the top FIA position.

In response to the looming competition, Ben Sulayem appeared unfazed, stating, “Let him stand. That is democracy.” The stage is set for a showdown between the incumbent FIA president and the former WRC champion, promising an electrifying election battle that will shape the future of motorsport governance.

Stay tuned for more updates on this gripping saga as the race to lead the FIA heats up.
