Mercedes Chief Skeptical of Monaco Rule: “We Need to Rethink Something”
Mercedes faced a disastrous outcome at the Monaco Grand Prix, failing to score any points due to a series of unfortunate events during qualifying and the race. Team principal, Wolff, expressed skepticism towards the effectiveness of the new rule imposed by F1 and FIA for the Monaco race.
Despite attempting a different strategy by delaying pit stops and hoping for a safety car, Mercedes was unable to make a significant impact on the race. Wolff admitted, “We tried something different, but it didn’t work and, in fact, it went even worse.” The team’s decision to keep the cars out longer did not yield the desired results, leaving them empty-handed at the end of the challenging race.
Wolff emphasized the importance of qualifying in Monaco, stating, “This is a race that is won and lost on Saturday.” He also hinted at potential changes in the rules for future Monaco Grand Prix events to enhance the excitement and competitiveness of the race.
Furthermore, Wolff addressed the upcoming rule change regarding the rigidity of the front wings, downplaying its potential impact on performance. He noted that all teams would need to adjust to the new regulation, suggesting that it might not lead to significant differences in performance across the grid.
The Mercedes team now faces the task of regrouping and strategizing for the next race in Barcelona, aiming to bounce back from their disappointing performance in Monaco.
