Tragic Death of Co-driver Dai Roberts in Jim Clark Rally Shocks Motorsport Community

Tragedy Strikes as Co-driver Dies in Horrific Rally Accident

A devastating incident unfolded at the Jim Clark Rally, where co-driver Dai Roberts lost his life during a fatal crash on stage eight, Edrom. The British Rally Championship event took a dark turn when a Hyundai i20 N Rally2, navigated by Roberts and driven by James Williams, veered off course, leading to the tragic demise of Roberts. Despite immediate medical attention, Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene, sending shockwaves through the motorsport community.

Williams, the driver involved in the harrowing accident, sustained serious injuries but is expected to survive, as confirmed by Police Scotland. The motorsport world is in mourning as Motorsport UK expressed their condolences to Roberts’ family, friends, and all those impacted by the Jim Clark Rally. Roberts, a seasoned co-driver, had recently clinched the British asphalt championship in 2022 alongside Williams, showcasing his talent and dedication to the sport.

The untimely passing of Roberts has reignited discussions on safety measures within rallying, especially considering his family’s history in the sport. Tragically, Roberts’ brother, Gareth Roberts, met a similar fate in 2012 during the Targa Florio event. The rallying duo’s father, Mike Roberts, a prominent figure in British rallying, now faces another heartbreaking loss within the racing community.

In response to the tragic incident, Motorsport UK has launched a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, emphasizing collaboration with event organizers and relevant authorities. The rallying world, including DirtFish, extends heartfelt sympathies to the Roberts family and friends during this difficult time.
