Honda Eyes Maverick Move: Puig’s Plan to Steal Jorge Martin Sends Shockwaves

Honda Racing Sets Sights on Snatching Top Talent from Rival Team

In a bold move that could shake up the MotoGP world, Honda Racing’s team principal, Alberto Puig, has publicly expressed the team’s strong interest in acquiring the talented rider Jorge Martin from Aprilia. The racing community was sent into a frenzy after insider reports revealed that Martin is eager to part ways with Aprilia at the conclusion of the 2025 season, citing dissatisfaction with the performance of the RS-GP bike.

Martin’s potential availability has sparked a fierce competition among top teams, with Honda Racing emerging as a frontrunner for his signature. Puig did not hold back in his praise for Martin, stating, “Every single team in the paddock would be interested in a rider like Martin. If you are not interested in Martin, you are an idiot.” While Puig made it clear that Honda Racing respects existing contracts, he left no doubt about their eagerness to secure Martin’s services if he becomes a free agent.

However, the path to Honda Racing for Martin is not without obstacles, as LCR Honda’s Johann Zarco is also eyeing a promotion to a factory team following his impressive performances in the 2025 season. With Zarco making a strong case for himself by currently sitting sixth in the standings and clinching victory at Le Mans, the competition for coveted factory seats is intensifying.

Despite the fierce competition for riders, Honda Racing has been enjoying a resurgence in the MotoGP championship, currently holding the second position after a disappointing performance last year. Puig hinted at the possibility of expanding Honda’s presence on the grid from four to six bikes for the upcoming seasons, a move that could further solidify their dominance in the sport.

As the battle for talent in MotoGP heats up, all eyes are on Honda Racing and their pursuit of Jorge Martin, a potential game-changer in the fiercely competitive world of motorcycle racing.
