Formula 1 teams are facing a “unique” and stringent curfew ruling set by the FIA for the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix this weekend. This new ruling, confirmed by F1’s governing body, will challenge teams’ operations and strategies during the race weekend.
The FIA has outlined specific Restricted Periods – Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday – where teams are prohibited from working on the cars and must vacate the paddock. Each team has been granted varying exceptions for these periods, with a focus on tire preparations to tackle the demanding Monaco circuit.
In case of a breach of the curfew, teams could face severe consequences. The curfew spans from 42 hours before FP1 to just hours before the start of the practice sessions, divided into three distinct periods. Any infringement beyond the exceptions allowed could force both drivers to start the Grand Prix from the pit lane.
This ruling comes after McLaren’s breach of the curfew earlier this season in Bahrain, emphasizing the FIA’s commitment to enforcing regulations. The adjustments made for Monaco aim to maintain fairness and competitiveness among the teams while adding a layer of complexity to their race weekend strategies.
As the Monaco Grand Prix unfolds, all eyes will be on how teams navigate this “unique” curfew ruling and its potential impact on their performance on the iconic street circuit.
