“Toyota can help Nissan avoid collapse.”

Lucros da Nissan quadruplicam em seis meses

Nissan is going through difficult times and after failing a potential merger with Honda, the brand announced financial results for the fiscal year 2024, which ended on March 31, 2025, with losses of ¥670.9 billion, or €4.1 billion.

In this way, Nissan’s CEO, Ivan Espinosa, has made it clear that, “if we do not act now, the situation will only worsen,” and therefore, the company has already presented a restructuring plan, “Re:Nissan,” with which it aims to make the company more efficient, profitable, and resilient.

To this end, Nissan will eliminate 20,000 jobs by 2027, including the nine thousand that had already been announced at the beginning of the year. In addition, it will reduce the global number of production units from 17 to 10 by 2028.

However, in Japan, the newspaper “Mainichi” has now reported that an executive from Toyota has contacted Nissan to explore the possibility of a partnership between the two companies. The publication indicates that Toyota may take on a “sponsorship” role for Nissan during the company’s restructuring period.

This will certainly not be a strange partnership for Toyota, which already has stakes in several Japanese manufacturers, including Subaru (20%), Mazda (5.1%), Suzuki (4.6%), and Isuzu (5.9%), so the possibility of supporting Nissan will not be an unusual situation.

Furthermore, Ivan Espinosa has already stated that the third largest car manufacturer in Japan is open to new partnerships. The CEO of Nissan made it clear that the company will continue to collaborate with other companies.

Recall that in 2000, when Nissan experienced a period of financial difficulties, the French company Renault made a rescue investment, and the former president Carlos Ghosn launched the “Nissan Revitalization Plan,” closing factories and reducing the workforce, which led to a significant turnaround in the profits of the Japanese company.
