Seat avança na produção de veículos elétricos na fábrica de Martorell

Seat continues to prepare for the production of electric vehicles at the Martorell factory, and has now revealed that it has reached an important milestone with the first pre-series battery systems coming off the assembly line.

The pre-series assembly of battery systems and the pre-series manufacturing of the first body parts in the new PXL press are two important steps for Seat, which will produce the electric Cupra Raval in Martorell starting next year, followed later by the VW ID.2all.

“The assembly of the first battery systems in our new factory and the production of body parts in the new PXL press for the future electric models that we will produce in Martorell is a fundamental milestone in our electrification strategy”, said Markus Haupt, interim CEO of Seat and Cupra and executive vice president of production and logistics at Seat SA.

Seat SA has assembled the first battery systems in Martorell. As a preliminary step for mass production, the assembly of these battery systems in the new factory allows the company to test its facilities, processes, and products to ensure the successful launch of new electric models.

This milestone was achieved in less than a year and a half since the construction of the battery assembly factory began, while the construction and installation of the necessary machines for mass production is being finalized. During this phase, the pre-series battery assembly process combines automated stations with manual tasks. Once completed, the factory will feature a fully automated production process and a total of 500 workers.

With an investment of €300 million and an area of 64,000 m², the factory will have a maximum capacity of 300,000 batteries per year, and will exclusively supply the electric vehicles produced in Martorell, thereby allowing Seat SA to increase competitiveness, optimize logistics processes, and reduce its carbon footprint.
