The McLaren F1 Team Hit the Brakes by FIA? Technical Directives Issued Ahead of Imola

In a shocking turn of events, Christian Horner expressed his surprise at the lack of pace from the McLaren team after the race. McLaren denies being disadvantaged and claims that all teams will be closer together in the upcoming races due to lower temperatures and more irregular track conditions. Ahead of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri had predicted that McLaren’s dominance seen in Miami would not be repeated. His prediction proved to be accurate as McLaren failed to showcase the same level of superiority, leaving Piastri unable to respond to Verstappen’s flawless overtake at the Tamburello corner.

Red Bull’s team principal, Christian Horner, was not surprised by Verstappen’s performance but rather by the underwhelming display from McLaren. Reports from The Race suggest that on Monday, May 12th, teams received two technical directives from the Federation. The first directive addressed potential grey areas exploited by teams regarding the measurement of the flat bottom of the cars. The FIA aimed to prevent teams from passing scrutineering checks only to lower their ride height significantly during the race. The directive regarding the flat bottom clarified the type of materials that can be used and how the flat bottom must be mounted.

The McLaren team’s performance and the subsequent technical directives have raised eyebrows in the Formula 1 community, sparking speculation and debate about the impact on the upcoming races. With the competition heating up, all eyes will be on how teams adapt to these new regulations and whether McLaren can maintain its position among the front-runners. Stay tuned for more updates as the F1 season unfolds with twists and turns both on and off the track.
