Mitsubishi Motors announced this Monday that it has decided not to proceed with the planned investment since the end of 2024 in Ampere, Renault’s electric vehicle unit.
The justification for this decision, now announced, is according to the Japanese brand a change in the company’s electric mobility strategy. It is worth recalling that Mitsubishi announced in October 2024 that it would make a €200 million investment in Renault’s electric vehicle division.
Through this investment in Ampere, Mitsubishi Motors aimed to enhance its electric vehicle development technology and expand its model range.
However, despite now having canceled the planned investment, Mitsubishi stated that it will continue to develop new cars based on Renault models.
“The company remains committed to exploring possible avenues for ongoing collaboration, including potential vehicles supplied by Renault and Ampere,” Mitsubishi said in a statement.
The decision now known from Mitsubishi follows the position taken by Nissan, which withdrew the planned investment for Ampere in recent months to finance a restructuring plan for the Japanese brand.
