Ferrari’s Bold Move: Revamping Rear Suspension Despite Looming F1 Reset

In a daring move that defies the norm in Formula 1, Ferrari is forging ahead with a significant revamp to its rear suspension, even as other teams are shifting focus to the 2026 rules overhaul. The decision comes as drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc struggle with compromises made due to ride height constraints.

The Italian team has been facing challenges with the SF-25’s performance, unable to achieve the optimal ride height for peak speed without risking excessive bottoming out on the track. This issue, exacerbated during high-speed corners and races with a full fuel load, led to Hamilton’s disqualification at the Chinese Grand Prix.

Analysis reveals that the root of Ferrari’s struggles lies in the rear suspension layout, which underwent changes this year alongside other modifications like a shorter gearbox. The upcoming suspension modifications aim to provide more space around the gearbox, allowing for increased damper capacity to better control the ride height and minimize ground contact.

Despite the impending rules reset, Ferrari’s commitment to such a significant overhaul showcases their determination to stay competitive in the current season. Team principal Fred Vasseur emphasized the importance of continuous development, especially in mechanical components that could offer performance gains beyond the current year.

While some teams are already pivoting towards the 2026 regulations, Vasseur believes that abandoning the current season would be a mistake. He stresses the value of staying in the competition mindset to drive improvement and maintain motivation within the team.

As Ferrari defies convention with its relentless pursuit of performance gains, the F1 world watches closely to see if this bold move will pay off on the track. With the summer break approaching, the arrival of the new rear suspension could be a game-changer for the iconic Scuderia.
