Reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion, Joey Logano, has taken a stand on the potential transformation of the annual All-Star Race into a points-paying event, declaring, “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.” The race, known for its exhibition-style thrill and a massive million-dollar cash prize for the winner, is set to unfold this Sunday, May 18, at the iconic North Wilkesboro Speedway in North Carolina.

Logano, victor of last year’s race and looking to defend his title in 2025, has voiced his opinion amidst discussions about the race’s future format. While some advocate for turning it into a points race to impact the playoffs, Logano appreciates the current allure of the All-Star event and its significance.

The NASCAR star expressed, “Would it be cool if it became a points race? Sure. Is it working as an All-Star race? Yeah. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it? Maybe.” However, he acknowledged the importance of keeping the event fresh to maintain its excitement, emphasizing the ongoing success of the race at North Wilkesboro Speedway.

As anticipation builds for the 250-lap spectacle this weekend, fans can catch the action on Fox Sports 1 starting at 8 pm ET. Additionally, live radio updates will be available on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Following the All-Star Race, NASCAR will shift focus to the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway for its 13th points-paying race.

Apart from the lucrative $1 million prize, the All-Star Race holds intrinsic value for drivers, providing them with invaluable momentum to carry forward in the season. Logano highlighted the race’s unique nature, stating, “It’s a bit of an all-or-nothing kind of race. You’ve got nothing to lose and a million bucks to gain. To me, it’s a pretty fun race because you can race with your hair down a little bit.”

With a rich history dating back to 1985, the All-Star Race boasts an illustrious list of past winners, including legends like Dale Earnhardt, Jeff Gordon, and Kevin Harvick. Logano himself has triumphed in the event twice, etching his name among the prestigious victors and solidifying his racing legacy.
