IVECO successfully completes tests with semi-autonomous trucks in partnership with Plus, DSV, and dm-drogerie markt.
The test conducted in Krefeld, Germany, using a heavy IVECO truck that integrated Plus’s semi-autonomous driver assistance solution, a company based in Silicon Valley, USA, was the first of its kind on the road in Germany.
After several months of rigorous testing, technology validation, and driver training, the semi-autonomous solution was now ready for public road testing.
The truck with the semi-autonomous solution was developed jointly by IVECO and the autonomous driving software company Plus. Equipped with Plus’s highly automated driving solution based on Artificial Intelligence, along with advanced sensors such as lidar, radar, and cameras, this IVECO S-Way provides the driver with a 360-degree view around the vehicle and new ways to monitor traffic and the road, enhancing safety and comfort.
This autonomous driving technology allows for safe and automatic execution of normal driving maneuvers on highways, including lane centering, lane changes initiated by the driver or suggested by the system, and assistance in traffic jams, with the driver monitoring the system. Additionally, it can reduce fuel consumption by approximately 10%, thereby decreasing emissions.
“This successful demonstration represents another important step in our journey towards the commercialization of highly automated driving technologies in the logistics sector. Through this collaborative pilot project, we were able to validate the capabilities of our advanced driver assistance system in real operations, confirming improvements in safety, fuel efficiency, and overall driving performance”, said Marco Liccardo, Chief Technology and Digital Officer of the Iveco Group.
