A statement like this would likely send shivers down the spines of Red Bull’s competitors, especially considering it came after the Dutchman’s dominant victory at the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, starting from pole position.

While Verstappen and Red Bull may argue they need to test their RB20 on different track layouts to ensure its performance, others – including rivals, experts, and spectators – may have a different opinion. The evidence is clear: the RB20 is yet another high-speed creation from the mind of Adrian Newey.

Verstappen expressed his satisfaction after securing another win in the Red Bull press release in Jeddah: “It’s fantastic to achieve my 100th podium today, and it was another outstanding race for us this weekend. I’m thrilled to win here in Jeddah – it’s been a fantastic start to the year, and we haven’t unlocked the full potential of the car yet. Our goal now is to maintain this momentum.”

Verstappen further explained the strategy behind his victory: “Due to the early stop during the safety car period, I knew we had to focus on managing our pace. Every time I pushed, I aimed to increase the gap because driving constantly on the limit and taking unnecessary risks on this circuit is not ideal. The hard tire provided excellent performance throughout the race, and I was able to manage my tires effectively. Towards the end, the tires started to cool down, making it easy to lose grip. However, we persevered and executed our plan well today.”

The ultimate goal is to compete for the championship, and we had a fantastic start,” concluded the three-time Formula 1 champion.

The Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner, praised Verstappen’s triumph in Jeddah and acknowledged the hard work of his team in developing the new car. He also praised the race execution, resulting in another one-two finish with Sergio Perez securing second place, despite receiving a five-second penalty for an unsafe release in the pit lane.

Horner stated: “Today’s race was executed with great precision, the only mistake we made was the unsafe release, but Checo had enough of a gap to hold onto second place and Max drove flawlessly to secure another victory.

“The cars performed exceptionally well throughout the weekend and the drivers played their part in achieving our second one-two finish of the season,” added the British team principal. “It’s clear that the team is operating at an incredibly high level, both on track and back at home in Milton Keynes. We have maintained the momentum from last year and that is a testament to the hard work of everyone involved.”

The RB20 is proving to be a worthy successor to the RB19, the car with which Red Bull dominated 21 out of 22 races in 2023. Horner is pleased with its performance so far, especially after significant advancements made by the design team in Milton Keynes, led by Newey, for the 2024 Formula 1 machine.

“The RB20 was a bold evolution from the RB19 for us, but after a dominant performance in Bahrain, it once again performed well at another circuit,” added the Red Bull team principal. “In Melbourne, we will face a completely different challenge, so it will be interesting to see how we fare.

“We started the season in the best possible way and the whole team is determined to maintain this form throughout the remaining long season,” Horner concluded.

Red Bull Racing currently leads the Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship, having scored 87 points with their consecutive one-two finishes in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Ferrari is currently in second place with 49 points.
