General Motors (GM) has announced that it has hired Sterling Anderson, co-founder of the autonomous vehicle company Aurora, to take on the role of executive vice president of global products.
Sterling Anderson will report directly to GM President Mark Reuss and will assume his new role starting June 2, with the mission of overseeing the lifecycle of gasoline vehicles as well as electric models.
It is worth noting that GM announced a partnership with technology giant Nvidia in March to develop its autonomous driving projects.
As part of this partnership, General Motors intends to use Nvidia’s chips and software to enhance the development of autonomous vehicles, robots, and next-generation production processes.
The arrival of Sterling Anderson at GM comes at a time when the American automaker has announced a significant financial investment in autonomous vehicles and its Super Cruise system, following the announcement of the complete acquisition of Cruise Automation, an American autonomous vehicle company, to develop autonomous driving technology for passenger vehicles, rather than robotaxis.
