The new BYD factory in Brazil will start operations later than expected, as it is not expected to be fully operational until December 2026, following delays in construction due to an investigation into worker abuses.
The information revealed by the Secretary of Labor for the state of Bahia, Augusto Vasconcelos, indicates that the BYD production facility in Brazil should begin operations later this year to start assembling vehicles from semi-finished kits.
“A new schedule is being established so that by December 2026 the factory will be fully operational with the expectation of generating 10,000 jobs”, said the official.
It is worth noting that BYD’s investment in Brazil is the largest made by the brand outside of China and aims to transform an old Ford factory into an industrial complex capable of producing 150,000 electric cars per year.
