Mercedes will begin producing the GLC SUV for North America at its factory in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA.
According to “Reuters,” the decision announced by officials from the German brand comes after Mercedes stated earlier this month that it would produce a new vehicle at the Alabama factory in 2027, which would “deepen the commitment to the USA.”
It should be noted that vehicles manufactured outside the USA have been the main focus of President Donald Trump’s global trade war. In early April, the Trump administration implemented a 25% tariff on vehicle imports.
Currently, the GLC is produced at the Bremen factory in Germany, which has a total of 10 models. A spokesperson for Mercedes stated that “no significant changes in average total production numbers in Bremen are expected in the medium term. Bremen will continue to produce the GLC for the rest of the world”, and the Alabama factory “will localize GLC production to meet demand in North America”.
With this change, the Mercedes factory in Alabama will become the center for the brand’s SUV production in the USA, as it already produces the GLE, GLS, GLE Coupe, and Maybach GLS.
