Volkswagen is not wasting any time in bringing the GTI badge into the electric era, and after presenting the ID.GTI concept at the 2023 Munich Motor Show (shown in the image), the German brand is now aiming for an ID.3 GTI, which could arrive as early as 2026.
According to the German publication, “Auto Motor und Sport,” this new fully electric GTI version is expected to be positioned above the ID.3 GTX Performance, which features a 79 kWh battery and an electric motor that delivers 326 hp and 545 Nm of torque. This configuration allows the hatchback to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and has a WLTP range of up to 602 km.
Although little is known about the ID.GTI variant at this time, the publication states that the new variant will arrive next year and will feature rear-wheel drive. However, don’t expect this GTI version to be significantly more powerful than the ID.3 GTX Performance.
“Auto Motor und Sport” suggests that the new model bearing the GTI badge may have a power output of around 340 hp, along with specific tuning for the chassis, steering, and suspension, to allow for a more sporty driving experience compared to the GTX Performance.
