Denny Hamlin’s Unfortunate Streak: Two Consecutive DNFs in 12 Years

In a shocking turn of events, NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin has been hit with back-to-back Did Not Finish (DNF) results for the first time in 12 years. The string of bad luck struck Hamlin due to mechanical issues, causing him to bow out of contention at both Texas Motor Speedway and Kansas Speedway.

The nightmare began at Texas Motor Speedway when Hamlin’s No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota burst into flames before the end of Stage 1, signaling an engine failure. Fast forward to the race at Kansas Speedway, a clutch problem haunted Hamlin, forcing his team to give him a push start every time he visited the pit lane. However, the breaking point came during a pit stop following a crash by Brad Keselowski, where Hamlin’s car refused to cooperate, coming to a halt in the middle of the pit lane and requiring assistance to be moved behind the wall.

Despite his valiant efforts to nurse the car to the finish line, Hamlin’s race ended prematurely due to a transaxle failure, resulting in a disappointing 36th place finish out of a 38-car field. Reflecting on the unfortunate events, Hamlin shared his frustration, stating, “Yeah, I think eventually just broke the transaxle trying to leave the stall there… Unfortunate for the team. Really fast again – just can’t keep it together right now.”

The silver lining for Hamlin is his prior victories this year, securing his spot in the playoffs. Prior to the recent setbacks, Hamlin had an impressive streak of finishing on the lead lap in 21 consecutive races. Notably, this back-to-back DNF experience is a rare occurrence for Hamlin, with the last instance dating back to the 2013 season, albeit due to race-ending wrecks.

Despite the recent challenges, Hamlin remains a formidable contender in the NASCAR circuit, and fans are eager to see how he bounces back from this stroke of misfortune.
