Dries Vanthoor Dominates IMSA Qualifying Once Again at Laguna Seca

In a heart-pounding display of speed and precision, Dries Vanthoor continues to showcase his supremacy in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship qualifying at Laguna Seca. The BMW M Team RLL driver, alongside co-pilot Philipp Eng, secured pole position for the fourth consecutive race, solidifying their reign over the competition.

Vanthoor’s No. 24 BMW M Hybrid V8 will lead the pack into the highly anticipated Monterey SportsCar Championship, edging out rivals by a mere 0.005 seconds. With a blazing lap time of 1m12.854s, Vanthoor proved his skill and determination, coming within striking distance of the GTP course record.

However, the competition was fierce, with Matt Campbell in the No. 6 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 hot on Vanthoor’s heels, securing the second spot on the grid with a time of 1m12.859s. Not far behind, the No. 7 Penske Porsche driven by Nick Tandy and Felipe Nasr claimed the third spot, promising an electrifying battle on race day.

The grid is packed with talent, as Ricky Taylor, Tom Blomqvist, and Sheldon van der Linde round out the top six qualifiers, setting the stage for an adrenaline-fueled showdown on the track. With seasoned drivers like Jordan Taylor, Nick Yelloly, and Frederik Vesti also in the mix, fans can expect nothing short of a thrilling race.

In the GTD PRO class, Giacomo Altoe stole the show with a stellar performance in the DragonSpeed Ferrari 296 GT3, clinching pole position for the second consecutive race. Despite fierce competition from the Pratt Miller Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.Rs, Altoe’s exceptional driving skills propelled him to the top spot in the final moments of qualifying.

The battle for supremacy in the GTD PRO class was intense, with Alexander Sims, Dan Harper, and Klaus Bachler putting up a formidable challenge. The margin between the top qualifiers was razor-thin, setting the stage for a neck-and-neck race that is sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats.

As the stage is set for the Monterey SportsCar Championship, all eyes are on Vanthoor, Altoe, and the rest of the talented field as they prepare to unleash their full potential on the iconic Laguna Seca circuit. With excitement building and anticipation running high, the upcoming race promises to be a spectacle of speed, skill, and adrenaline-fueled action.
