When asked about his strategy to move up from sixth place on the starting grid, Norris admitted uncertainty, stating: “I have no idea. Jumping the start… It’s hard to know.” He also highlighted the difficulty of overtaking on the Jeddah circuit due to limited opportunities and reduced tire degradation. Norris acknowledged McLaren’s significant disadvantage on the straights and admitted it would be a challenging race for them. However, he remained optimistic about McLaren’s decision to save a new set of medium compound tires for the race, believing it could give them an edge over their closest rivals. Despite the challenges they face, Norris considered his position after qualifying favorable and expressed satisfaction with his own performance. He mentioned that the team deliberately chose to use only one set of new tires for the final qualifying session, with the goal of having an extra new set for the race. Norris highlighted the difficulties faced by Mercedes during qualifying, with both George Russell and Lewis Hamilton experiencing recurring issues that resulted in them starting on the fourth row of the grid. When asked if he planned to stay ahead of the Mercedes cars, Norris confirmed that was indeed the plan, but acknowledged the complexities of the track and the unpredictable nature of the race. He emphasized that McLaren is in a tight competition with Mercedes and Aston Martin, and anything can happen in the race.
