Foxconn, Apple’s main production partner, has just signed a memorandum of understanding with Mitsubishi to produce electric vehicles for Australia and New Zealand, with a launch expected in the second half of 2026.
The memorandum stipulates that Foxtron Vehicle Technologies, Foxconn’s automotive division, will design and manufacture the electric models for Mitsubishi.
With this agreement, the Taiwanese company has the opportunity to showcase its automotive production capabilities, hoping that a partnership between the two companies will attract other brands.
So far, details about the models to be produced by Foxtron under this partnership with Mitsubishi are not known, nor the format of the models, which should be revealed soon, considering that the new electric models are set to hit the market next year.
It is worth noting that recently Foxconn has been associated with taking on a strategic partner role for several Japanese brands, including Nissan, in order to reduce its dependence on consumer electronics and expand its business in the 100% electric vehicle market.
