As part of an ongoing assessment of its driver line-up for the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship, BWT Alpine Formula One Team has made the decision to rotate one of its race seats for the next five rounds of the season. Argentine driver Franco Colapinto, who has been one of Alpine’s Test & Reserve Drivers, will partner with Pierre Gasly starting from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, with the team set to evaluate their line-up before the British Grand Prix in July.

Colapinto, who will race under the number #43 on the A525, is set to make his race debut alongside Gasly in Imola. The rotation will cover a series of important races, including the Monaco Grand Prix, the Spanish Grand Prix, followed by the Canadian and Austrian Grand Prix in June. This move is part of Alpine’s broader strategy to evaluate the driver pairing as they prepare for future seasons.

Jack Doohan’s Role Remains Integral

Despite Colapinto’s inclusion in the race seat, Australian driver Jack Doohan, who has been an integral part of Alpine’s development program, remains a key figure within the team. Doohan will continue as the first-choice Reserve Driver for the upcoming five races. His professionalism and commitment to the team have been invaluable, and he will continue to support the team in any way possible.

Doohan Reflects on His Role

In response to the announcement, Doohan expressed his pride in having achieved his lifelong dream of becoming a Formula One driver. “I am very proud to have achieved my lifelong ambition to be a professional Formula One driver and I will forever be grateful to the team for helping me achieve this dream,” said Doohan. “Obviously, this latest chapter is a tough one for me to take because, as a professional driver, naturally I want to be racing. That said, I appreciate the team’s trust and commitment. We have long-term goals as a team to achieve, and I will continue to give my maximum efforts in any way I can to help achieve those.”

Doohan continued, “For now, I will keep my head down, keep working hard, watch with interest the next five races, and keep chasing my own personal goals.” His unwavering focus on his development and future goals demonstrates his determination to continue progressing in the highly competitive world of Formula 1.

The Road Ahead for Alpine

As the season moves forward, the five-race rotation will provide Alpine with valuable data on both Colapinto and Gasly, ensuring the team makes informed decisions about their driver line-up for the future. The upcoming races will be crucial as Alpine continues to refine its strategy for the 2026 season and beyond.

This decision also adds an element of intrigue to the team’s driver line-up, with both Colapinto and Gasly vying for their position as Alpine’s primary race drivers. The next few races will be key in shaping Alpine’s future direction and how they approach their long-term goals in Formula 1.
