NASCAR Star Kyle Busch Reveals Shocking Reason for Selling Racing Team

In a surprising turn of events, NASCAR legend Kyle Busch has divulged the real motive behind selling his renowned race team, KBM, to Spire Motorsports. The two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion made a bold move by parting ways with his iconic race team, which had seen tremendous success under his leadership.

During his time with Joe Gibbs Racing, Kyle Busch established Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) as one of the most dominant race teams in the history of the Truck and Xfinity Series. With three drivers’ championships and an impressive 113 wins, KBM had become a powerhouse in the TRD Cup garage, providing numerous up-and-coming drivers with their first taste of NASCAR racing.

However, all good things must come to an end, as KBM’s 77,000-square-foot shop in Mooresville was sold to Spire Motorsports, which was looking to expand its operations. The decision to sell the team and its resources came as Kyle Busch shifted his focus to nurturing the career of his son, Brexton Busch.

In a recent appearance on the DBC podcast, Kyle Busch expressed nostalgia for the days when he was both an owner and driver, reminiscing about the camaraderie and hard work that went into building KBM into a competitive force in the Truck Series. He hinted that financial strains, possibly exacerbated by his move from TRD to Chevy by signing with RCR in 2023, played a role in his decision to sell the team.

As the sustainability of the team began to look uncertain, Kyle Busch saw the opportunity to pass the torch to Spire Motorsports, who had ambitious plans for the KBM race shop. Despite initial concerns about the capacity of the shop to accommodate Cup, Xfinity, and Truck Series operations, Spire proved their capabilities and have since flourished in both Cup and Truck competitions.

The deal also affords Kyle Busch the chance to continue racing five trucks a year with the team, reminiscent of his earlier days at KBM. With one race already under his belt in 2025, which he won at Atlanta, fans are eager to see how many more victories the veteran driver can secure as he relives the memories of his time at KBM under the Spire banner.

As Kyle Busch embarks on this new chapter in his racing career, the NASCAR community is abuzz with speculation about the future successes that await both him and the revitalized Spire Motorsports.
