Alpine’s Shocking Move: Jack Doohan’s F1 Future Hangs by a Thread as Franco Colapinto Lurks

In a stunning turn of events, Alpine is on the brink of axing Australian driver Jack Doohan from the upcoming Formula 1 race at Imola, with Franco Colapinto poised to make a comeback to the grid. The pressure mounted on Doohan at the start of the 2025 F1 season when Alpine unexpectedly signed Colapinto as their reserve driver. Despite being a 22-year-old rookie, Doohan has failed to secure any points this season and faced backlash after a disappointing performance at the Miami Grand Prix.

Alpine, keeping their cards close to their chest, is carefully evaluating Doohan’s future and is set to make a final decision this week before the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. The team has refrained from providing any comments on the matter, leaving fans and experts speculating about the fate of the young driver. Team principal Oliver Oakes, dodging the usual media session after the Miami Grand Prix, had previously hinted at Doohan retaining his spot for the upcoming race at Imola. However, with the recent string of underwhelming performances, Doohan’s position within the team hangs by a thread.

Doohan’s track record with Alpine has been less than stellar, failing to secure any points in the seven races he has competed in since his F1 debut in Abu Dhabi last December. Notably, his best finish of 13th place came at the Chinese Grand Prix, with the Australian driver also being involved in two significant crashes earlier in the season. On the contrary, Pierre Gasly has been the saving grace for Alpine, single-handedly accumulating all seven points for the team so far in the 2025 season.

As the European leg of the F1 season kicks off with the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, all eyes are on Alpine’s crucial decision regarding Doohan’s future in the team. With Colapinto waiting in the wings for a potential comeback, the stakes are higher than ever for Doohan to prove his worth on the track. Will Alpine stick with the struggling Australian driver, or is his F1 journey coming to an abrupt end? The answers will unfold as the drama-packed season continues to unravel on the prestigious F1 circuit.
