Alpine Shakeup: Doohan Axed as Colapinto Takes the Wheel for Imola Showdown

Alpine is set for a dramatic mid-season shakeup in the Formula 1 realm, as reports suggest that Jack Doohan is on the chopping block after just six races into the 2025 season, paving the way for Argentine driver Franco Colapinto to step into the spotlight ahead of the Imola Grand Prix.

Doohan’s stint as a full-time F1 driver in 2025 is seemingly coming to an abrupt end, with the promising youngster failing to live up to expectations despite occasional flashes of brilliance, such as outqualifying teammate Pierre Gasly in Miami. However, a lack of consistent results and a string of on-track incidents have marred his season, leaving him without a single point on the scoreboard.

Sources indicate that Alpine has already made the decision to replace Doohan with Colapinto, who has been actively involved with the team in a reserve capacity since the beginning of the season. The Argentine driver’s stellar performances during testing and simulator sessions, coupled with strong backing from sponsors like YPF and Mercado Libre, have reportedly tipped the scales in his favor.

While Doohan has shown glimpses of speed on certain occasions, his track record of accumulating penalty points and erratic racecraft seem to have sealed his fate at Alpine. The recent collision with Liam Lawson in Miami, leading to a disappointing DNF, appears to have been the final straw for the Australian driver.

If confirmed, Colapinto’s promotion to a full-time race seat at the upcoming Imola Grand Prix could mark a historic moment for Argentine motorsport and a significant turning point in Alpine’s trajectory for the 2025 season.

The imminent driver swap at Alpine underscores the cutthroat nature of Formula 1 and the relentless pursuit of performance and results in the pinnacle of motorsport. As the team gears up for a crucial phase of the season, all eyes will be on Colapinto as he prepares to make his mark on the prestigious grid at Imola.

Stay tuned for more updates as the F1 drama unfolds, reshaping the landscape of the sport and setting the stage for a thrilling battle on the iconic Italian circuit.
