Ferrari Team Boss Stands Firm on Controversial Team Orders at F1 Miami GP

In a bold move that has sparked controversy among fans and drivers alike, Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur has staunchly defended the team’s decision to implement team orders during the Miami Grand Prix. Despite the frustration expressed by drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, Vasseur remains resolute in his stance, refuting claims of indecision in the heat of the race.

The pivotal moment came when Ferrari opted to swap positions between Leclerc and Hamilton, strategically aiming to leverage the Briton’s medium tires against Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s Mercedes in sixth place. Although Hamilton managed to narrow the gap initially, the ultimate attempt fell short, leading to a repositioning of Leclerc in seventh as the race concluded.

Both drivers openly voiced their discontent with the team’s tactics, with Hamilton criticizing the sluggish decision-making process and Leclerc expressing discomfort over the proximity of Carlos Sainz. Vasseur, however, defended the call, emphasizing the team’s overarching policy and the need to discern genuine speed from DRS-assisted performance.

Vasseur explained, “We are racing for Ferrari first. We took the responsibility to do it because it’s the policy of the team. Honestly, I think as a team, we did a good job.”

Addressing criticisms of delayed driver swaps, Vasseur pointed out the complexities of real-time decision-making on the pitwall, emphasizing the multitude of factors and information at play. He dismissed claims of inefficiency, highlighting the intricate nature of coordinating radio transmissions and strategic discussions amidst the high-stakes race environment.

The Ferrari team boss’s unyielding defense of the controversial team orders has ignited a fiery debate within the Formula 1 community, underscoring the fine line between team strategy and individual driver ambitions on the prestigious racing circuit. As tensions simmer in the aftermath of the Miami Grand Prix, Vasseur’s unwavering stance serves as a testament to Ferrari’s unwavering commitment to prioritize team success above all else.
