Nissan will be in advanced negotiations to invest in Fisker, an American electric vehicle company, which last week announced the suspension of the development of the compact Pear due to the financial losses recorded in the last quarter of 2023.
According to “Automotive News Europe”, which cites sources from “Reuters”, Henrik Fisker, CEO of the American company, is seeking partnerships to recover Fisker’s financial situation and reduce costs.
In this sense, Nissan could be the partner that Fisker needs since, according to “Reuters”, the Japanese brand seems willing to invest around €370 million in the American company and in return have access to the Alaska pick-up project, one of the new models presented in 2023 by Fisker.
Furthermore, Nissan would use the Alaska platform to launch an electric pick-up with its own design, and the two models would be produced at one of the Japanese automaker’s factories in North America starting in 2026.
Presented in August of last year, the Alaska pick-up is based on the FM31 platform, a modified version of the platform used by the Ocean crossover, and will feature the same electric motor that offers 275 hp in the entry-level version and 564 hp in the top-of-the-range variant, and will have two battery options, with 75 and 113 kWh, for a range of 370 to 547 km.
It is worth noting that Fisker recently announced plans to launch the Alaska pick-up in the European market.
