Yuki Tsunoda Struggles to Adapt to RB21: “I Need More Time in Qualifying”

Yuki Tsunoda, the young Japanese driver, is facing challenges adapting to the Red Bull RB21 as he enters his fourth race weekend with the team. Since swapping with Liam Lawson, Tsunoda has only managed to score points during the Sakhir Grand Prix. In contrast to Lawson’s struggles in the same car, Tsunoda seems to be adjusting better to the peculiarities of the RB21. However, after a setback in Jeddah where he was taken out in the first lap, Tsunoda needs to deliver consistent results to boost the team’s Constructors’ Championship standings.

During a press conference in Miami, Tsunoda admitted to still having difficulties handling the new car, especially in qualifying situations. He expressed the need for more time to progress further, stating, “I’m quite happy with what I’ve done so far, the confidence is there. But when you push the limit at 110% in qualifying, it’s always challenging because it’s the first time you do it during the weekend. It always takes some time to build the right rhythm in qualifying.”

In an effort to familiarize himself with Red Bull’s driving style, Tsunoda recently tested a Red Bull RB19 at Silverstone. Despite encountering wet track conditions and facing some issues during the day, Tsunoda found the experience valuable for gaining mileage and understanding the differences in car characteristics compared to previous circuits.

Tsunoda’s journey to adapt to the RB21 continues, with the young driver acknowledging the learning curve and the time required to reach peak performance. As he strives to find his footing in the competitive world of Formula 1, all eyes are on Tsunoda to see how he will overcome these challenges and make his mark in the sport.
