Veículo roubado do piloto da Ferrari da Fórmula 1 é encontrado pela polícia de Londres.

The Metropolitan Police was informed about the whereabouts of the Ferrari in January, after a tip from the car manufacturer itself.

After almost thirty years, the Metropolitan Police successfully located a Ferrari that belonged to former Formula 1 driver Gerhard Berger.

The stolen vehicle, a red Ferrari F512M, was one of two cars that were taken during the San Marino Grand Prix in Imola, Italy, in April 1995.

This recovery marks the end of a long absence for the car, highlighting the ongoing efforts of law enforcement authorities to locate stolen valuable items.

The Metropolitan Police was informed about the location of the Ferrari in January, thanks to information provided by the car manufacturer.

Ferrari had conducted investigations into a vehicle involved in a sale between a buyer from the United States and a broker from the United Kingdom the previous year.

This led to the discovery that the stolen car had been transported to Japan shortly after the theft and later reappeared in the UK at the end of 2023.

The Metropolitan Police’s Organized Vehicle Crime Unit acted immediately to secure the car and prevent it from being exported out of the country.

Although Berger’s Ferrari has been successfully recovered, the whereabouts of the second stolen car are still unknown and no arrests have been made in connection with the case.

This highlights the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in resolving vehicle thefts, especially those involving rare and expensive cars.

Police officer Mike Pilbeam, who led the investigation, shared insights into the meticulous process that led to the recovery of the Ferrari.

“The stolen Ferrari, valued at approximately £350,000, had been missing for over 28 years before we located it in just four days,” he said.

Pilbeam emphasized the extensive collaboration between various agencies and organizations, including the National Crime Agency, Ferrari, and international car dealerships.

This joint effort played a crucial role in reconstructing the car’s history and ensuring it remained in the UK.

The successful recovery of the Ferrari not only represents a significant achievement for the Metropolitan Police, but also serves as evidence of the determination and commitment of law enforcement authorities in solving old cases.
