Verstappen garante o primeiro lugar na classificação do Grande Prêmio da Arábia Saudita de F1

Max Verstappen, the Dutch driver from Red Bull Racing, celebrated his pole position in the qualifying parc fermé for the Formula 1 World Championship, Round 2, Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah. This achievement secured Verstappen the first position on the grid for the race. The qualifying session took place on Friday.

In Jeddah, Verstappen secured his first pole position, surpassing his competitors. Charles Leclerc, from Ferrari, finished three tenths behind Verstappen, securing a place on the front row.

The qualifying session took place at night in Jeddah, increasing the excitement of the event. The speed of a lap in Formula 1 was closely contested once again, with drivers fighting for the best positions on the grid.

During the practice session on Thursday night, Fernando Alonso, from Aston Martin, led the tables, showcasing his impressive skills. The group of drivers was separated by 1.326 seconds.

Sergio Perez, from Red Bull Racing, aimed to secure his third consecutive pole position in Jeddah. The crowd was also eager to see Ferrari, as 18-year-old Oliver Bearman replaced Carlos Sainz, who was recovering from appendicitis surgery.

There was commotion in the Sauber garage as the mechanics worked tirelessly to repair Zhou Guanyu’s car after he was involved in an accident during the third practice session on Friday afternoon.

As the qualifying session progressed, Verstappen and Perez emerged as the favorites. Perez initially set the fifth fastest time, while Verstappen quickly rose to the top of the standings.

Unfortunately, Pierre Gasly, Logan Sargeant, Valtteri Bottas, Esteban Ocon, and Zhou Guanyu were at risk of being eliminated from the qualifying session. Zhou Guanyu, despite returning to the track with less than two minutes remaining, did not manage to cross the start/finish line in time to set a lap.

Verstappen dominated the first segment of qualifying, setting a lap time of 1:28.171s. He was 0.079s ahead of Lance Stroll and 0.147s ahead of Charles Leclerc.

Bottas, Ocon, Gasly, Sargeant, and Zhou were all eliminated in the first round of qualifying. However, Ferrari rookie Oliver Bearman advanced to the next round, setting an impressive ninth fastest time.

In the second round of qualifying, drivers had 15 minutes to secure their spot in the top 10 shootout for Q3. Unfortunately, Nico Hulkenberg could not replicate his success in the Bahrain qualifying as his Haas stopped on track in Sector 1, causing a red flag and delaying the session.

The session resumed with just under 11 minutes remaining, and only four drivers had set a representative time up to that point.

In the final moments of qualifying, Max Verstappen stood out as the fastest driver, setting a time of 1:28.078s. Fernando Alonso was very close, only 0.044s behind the leader. The drivers at risk of elimination were Kevin Magnussen, Daniel Ricciardo, Alex Albon, and Oliver Bearman, who failed to set a time. Nico Hulkenberg was already out due to technical issues. Verstappen maintained his dominance from Q2, leading the way ahead of Alonso and Charles Leclerc. Bearman made a great effort but was only 0.036s behind Lewis Hamilton in 11th place. The 18-year-old driver admitted to making mistakes that contributed to his elimination. Albon, Magnussen, Ricciardo, and Hulkenberg were the drivers who missed out in Q2. In Q3, Red Bull, Mercedes, McLaren, and Aston Martin were well represented, with Leclerc and Yuki Tsunoda also participating for Ferrari and Red Bull, respectively. Verstappen seemed poised to secure his first pole position at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, setting the fastest provisional time of 1:27.472s. Sergio Perez was 0.335s behind in second place, with Alonso half a second behind in third. Leclerc, known for his speed in one lap, had work to do after his first attempt only placed him in fourth. He struggled with the feel of his car on new tires, a recurring issue from the previous race in Bahrain. As the clock ticked down to four minutes remaining, the drivers put on new soft tires and went for their fastest laps on the Jeddah Corniche Circuit. However, Verstappen remained untouchable and secured his first pole position in Saudi Arabia. Leclerc improved to second place, but was still 0.319s behind Verstappen. Perez and Alonso will start from the second row, while McLaren dominated the third row, with Oscar Piastri beating Lando Norris to fifth place. The fourth-place positions will be occupied by the Mercedes drivers, with George Russell in seventh and Hamilton in eighth. Tsunoda and Lance Stroll completed the top-10 in qualifying, with a 1.1s gap separating them in Q3.
